One month after Kate and Gerry renewed the lease on their Renault
Scenic hire care, the mileage is clocked at 5,864 kms, which is 2,750 kms (1,708.77 miles) more than when they originally
picked it up 5 weeks ago.

A 39 year-old Dutch citizen from Eindhoven is arrested for attempted
fraud. The man had demanded 2 million euros to reveal who had Madeleine and where she was. After arrest he admitted he
had no information and was driven by boredom and trying to extort the money.

for further questioning.

Bad start to the day for the McCann's when a reputable press agency
rings to say that a body had been found. Like many stories surrounding the case, it turns out to be a false rumour.
Three of the Tapas group (Russell O'Brien, Rachel Oldfield and Fiona
Payne) are re-interviewed by police to clarify points in their initial statements. Robert Murat is then brought into
the questioning by police to 'confront' the 3 members of the Tapas group. The police apparently allow them to argue over
the inconsistencies in their statements. The police later say that this was a valuable exercise.

Gerry flies to London to meet with the British police.
At night he attends the National Police Federation Annual Bravery
awards and receives a standing ovation.

Still in London, Gerry spends a large part of the day
at the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre to learn more about their role.

Yorkshire
Gerry, Kate and the twins attend a family baptism in Yorkshire,
where they have stood as Godparents.
It is the first time Kate has returned to the UK since
Madeleine's disappearance.

Gerry, Kate and the twins return to Praia da Luz on an early
morning flight. Gerry's mum and sister return with them.

JK Rowling follows up her offer of a large reward, for the return
of Madeleine, by asking all retailers of her new book, due to be released on 21 July, to accompany the release with a new

Gerry spends the whole day travelling from the Algarve to Washington,
USA with their Campaign Manager. They take a Virgin plane with the tickets donated by Richard Branson.
Gerry is upset by a headline in a British newspaper suggesting that
they face prosecution for leaving their children unattended.

Gerry, and their Campaign Manager, spend most of the day at
the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). They meet US Attorney General Gonzales at the Justice Department.
Gerry finishes the day off with an interview for America's Most
Wanted programme, which boasts 12 million viewers.

Gerry starts interviews at 6.15am for the five major US TV networks.
Late morning Gerry, and Campaign Manager, visit the White House
where they meet with the First Lady's deputy chief of staff Sarah Armstrong.
After lunch they move on to Capitol Hill for meetings with politicians.
In the evening Gerry manages to meet up with a friend from Glasgow,
who is also a cardiologist, and working in the Washington area for a 'bite to eat'.

After a round of meetings during the day and a visit to the British
Embassy, Gerry takes an evening flight from Washington as he heads back to Portugal.
