The eleven witnesses include a man with
a criminal record over sexual abuse of a
British tourist, in praia da Luz, in
1995. Portuguese, he resembles one of
the e-fits, he had journalists on his
doorstep back in 2008, and was
photographed
holding
a shotgun.
The Policia Judiciaria (PJ) discarded
him at the time, but Scotland Yard
considers him a suspect. The detectives
want to know what he did on the 3rd of
May of 2007 (the day when Madeleine
McCann, aged three, disappeared), his
phone calls and bank movements that day,
what connections he has to
Sergey Malinka (one of the four men
that were made arguidos in July) and if
the police already has his DNA or
fingerprints.
Most of the almost 130 questions are
incriminating. Nevertheless, he is
summoned as a witness, just like the
other ten persons.
Robert Murat questioned
One of the most eagerly awaited
questionings is that of
Robert
Murat (the Portuguese
investigation's first arguido), which is
scheduled for tomorrow, just like his
wife's,
Michaela Walczuch, and her former
husband's,
Luis
Antonio. The list also includes
Silvia Baptista, the head of the
Ocean Club's workers, the resort's
manager
John
Hill, and his wife.
On Friday, a meeting is scheduled
between the two police forces to discuss
the outcome of the diligences that were
requested by the British authorities and
executed by the PJ. This meeting will
also be attended by the leader of the
Scotland Yard's team,
Andy Redwood, who is to retire at
the end of this month, and by the chief
inspector who will replace him.
Nicola Wall leads a team that is
specialised in homicide and violent
crime.
