The McCann couple say they are satisfied by
the decision of the English police to re-evaluate the case into the
disappearance of their daughter Madeleine, in 2007 from the Algarve, and
say that they hope this brings more information.
.Gerry McCann, who travelled to Lisbon this weekend in the company of
his wife Kate, expressed to the Lusa agency that they are both “very
satisfied that the Metropolitan police will re-evaluate all the
information and the case”, following the intervention of British Prime
Minister David Cameron.
”This was something that we requested more than three years ago and, for
the case, it is very important that this information be analysed again,
so that more investigations can take place. We are very satisfied and
hope that new information appears”, said gerry McCann.
Madeleine’s father also emphasised that he hope for cooperation between
the English and Portuguese authorities and said that the book
“Madeleine”, written by Kate, could help “people open their minds”.
The book, said Gerry, does not have the purpose of raising funds for the
investigation nor of silencing those who do not believe the British
couple, who have always insisted on the theory that Madeleine was
abducted.
“What we say to these persons who do not believe in us is, please, read
the book and compare what was written. They should face the facts and
what, all along, we have done to find our daughter, emphasised Gerry.
Confessing that it was “a big decision to publish the book”, Kate
reinforced that Madeleine’s parents aim to present the truth.
“There has been a lot of speculation, a lot of lost information and
lies”, said the anaesthetist, while her cardiologist husband, says that
he believes that “directly or indirectly, the book will help the search
for the girl.
Four years after the disappearance of Madeleine, from a tourist resort
in Praia da Luz, Algarve, Gerry and Kate McCann continue to believe that
their daughter is alive and repeat the need to continue the
investigation, also calling for punishment of those responsible.
“In my heart, I feel that she is in some place and in my head, based
upon pure facts, there is no evidence that says that she is not alive”,
observed Kate.
Gerry even says that the couple are “stronger than in 2007” and the
“pain and roll of emotions is not so close to suffering” as then.
“Our life brings up happiness. We have two other beautiful children and
other things that make us happy. It is not a complete life, there is
always a feeling of sadness present. It is not as if we are living a
nightmare, as in 2007, but we are working a lot to find Madeleine”, he
said.
The book “Madeleine”, which is already on sale in Portugal, was launched
in London on 12th May and for every copy sold one cent will be destined
to the investigation and search for the girl.
The English girl disappeared on 3rd May 2007 from the bedroom where she
was sleeping with her twin siblings, whilst the parents were dining with
a group of friends in a nearby restaurant, in the Ocean Club tourist
resort in Praia da Luz.
After 3 days of intensive searching the director of the Faro PJ,
Guilhermino Encarnacao, announced that elements had been found which
assured the “abduction” thesis and the origin of the crime could lie in
“redemption and/or sexual motives”.
After 11 days of inquiries, the PJ made an English citizen, Robert
Murat, arguido, due to suspicions of his implication in the case, but
they did not find evidence to detain him.
Without a body and without perpetrators, in August the PJ moved the
direction of the investigation to the possible death of the girl, with
suspicions falling on the parents.
The turn around in the investigation was based on biological traces
gathered from the apartment and from the car hired by the McCann couple,
25 days after the disappearance of their daughter.
After having been subjected to various hours of interrogation by the
Portimao DIC, Gerry and Kate McCann were made arguidos.
In the middle of 2008, the Public Prosector archived the case, which
will be re-opened if new evidence is presented. |
