The couple aim to arrive at 100 thousand signatures
The McCanns Circulate Petition
To Re-Open Maddie Case
Kate and Gerry McCann
are circulating a petition with which they aim to
lead the English and Portuguese governments to review the Maddie case.
Up to now they have already obtained 31 thousand signatures and aim to
arrive at 100 thousand.
The McCanns claim that the gathering of information that it is the
possession of the British and Portuguese authorities will enable the
discovery of what happened to Maddie, their daughter, who disappeared
three and a half years ago. With the petition, which is on-line and also
available on paper, Kate and Gerry hope to achieve that the
investigations continue and that the information detained by the
authorities would be made available.
“If we do not get the help of the authorities, we will have to continue
to search by ourselves” said Kate, in a press conference given by the
McCanns this afternoon, in Lisbon. “Its like being in a race and not
knowing when it will end”, explained Gerry, guaranteeing that they will
not give up until they know what happened to Maddie.
With regard to the
fund to search for Maddie, the McCanns guarantee that
it is not going to end and that the maximum will be done to achieve
support. “Every month we have meetings to discuss ways of guaranteeing
money”, said Gerry.
About the decision by the
Appeals Court
of annulling the prohibition of
the sale of Goncalo Amaral’s book “The Truth of the Lie” – the McCanns
said little.
According to Gerry, the book “leads one to believe that Maddie is dead,
when there is no evidence that points in this direction.”
Isabel Duarte, lawyer for the McCanns, said that the “appeal to the Supreme Court of
Justice was handed in on the 5th November” and that, in the case that
the decision by the Appeals Court is maintained, the solution will be to
resort to international courts. |
Isabel Duarte, lawyer for the McCanns, said that the “appeal to
the Supreme Court of Justice was handed in on the 5th November. “This is
an exceptional, possible situation, according to Isabel Duarte, thanks
to the fact of being involved in a fundamental argument: “This book was
published and continues to be published to make money and to deepen the
pain of my clients and to prejudice the investigation relating to
Madeleine McCann.
In the case that the decision by the Appeals Court is maintained, the
solution will be to resort to international courts.
Goncalo Amaral’s book is not yet on the market. “And it will not be” said Isabel Duarte.
“I am the faithful retainer of the book and whilst I am not forced to
deliver it, I will not deliver it in any way. Until there is a final,
definitive solution.” |
